These 10 simple designs and images which look as if they have been hastily hand drawn using a Sharpie onto plain white cards, are actually professionally screen printed onto top quality, slightly flexible, silk finish plastic cardstock and subconsciously prove to the spectator that the cards are un-marked and completely opaque.
The properties of the plastic cards give the impression that there are more cards than there actually are!
Long lasting, easy to clean, business card size, stored in their own plastic stud-fastening business card case, which can also be used as part of the routine.
Complete with a link to a 20 minute video performance, instruction and handling tips download, with a pdf of the symbolic meanings of the DTC images.

The package I received contained the following:
10 printed cards. These were a surprise as the cards are more like thin credit cards. They are not only durable but, as they are thicker than normal cards, it would be difficult to discern the number of cards in play. One side shows a simple image, the other is blank. The cards can be thoroughly examined and with nothing untoward found – no markings or anything suspect. This in itself is important as it makes the effects appear all the more authentic. There is no secret to be found.
A small plastic box is also supplied. This can be useful in certain presentations and for keeping all the required items together. Having a small box also helps get away from traditional playing card boxes and any hit of usual magic fair. The box is an excellent idea and addition.
Also included are some plain cards which you can use to duplicate a drawing. As explained in the video, these additional cards can be used to make a subtle convincer.

The quality and slightly unusual nature of the cards, plus their durability, and other items included justify the asking price.
Now for the effect itself. This is nothing new. There are plenty of other image cards available which would allow you to present a drawing test effect, including ODDS. Also there are fewer cards in play than ODDS, although spectators need not be told how many. But this is where the effect scores. It is simple, direct and very convincing. The cards are above suspicion and the handling clean, with the necessary easy and straightforward to do.
In the video instruction, Luca Volpe demonstrates how to p**k and this was – forgive the pun – a real revelation. Very very clever, subtle and a real delight. The method he shows is not only useful for the Drawing Test Cards but in other routines as well. This in itself is well worth learning.
While many will use the cards for a mindreading demonstration, I also like the versatility and possibilities these cards offer. They could be ideal to use in a prediction routine or, if you wished, for divination and readings. Included is a pdf containing meanings and possible interpretation for each of the shapes and which add another interesting element to the images used and chosen.
I have already given these cards ‘the wife test’ and my wife, who was watching my every move, was incredulous. Everything was fair and above suspicion. She liked the effect a lot, which in itself speaks volumes.
To sum up.
If wanting something hi-tech or are looking for new principles, this is not for you.
However, if wanting something practical, convincing and which looks authentic, as well as being genuinely free from fakery, then The Drawing Test Cards are worth serious consideration. It is also very versatile, both in how and when you use. It can be performed one to one, in close up, parlour or on stage. The tools (the cards) are simple and clear and with the main effect easy to understand and perform. In addition, the cards can be used in other ways and, with more images in play than the standard ESP symbols, what is possible to achieve can appear even more impressive.
I genuinely like the Drawing Test Cards and, given their portability, can see myself carrying them around with me and using them often. They allow for strong, practical mentalism and with the cards supplied – different from the norm – adding authenticity to what you do.
Overall this is a very good and recommended release and while not offering anything new in terms of principle, given how much I can see myself using these, could turn out to be one of my best and favourite buys of the year.

Yes, the effect and the technique aren’t new (Luca even mentions other products and creators in the explanation video)
Yes, they are not cheap, but they are really well produced!

Is it something that I will use as a working magician? ABSOLUTELY YES! Why? It’s simple. Instantly reset. Won’t take up much pocket space. Angleproof. The cards will last forever (well a long long time!), and I can hand out my business card immediately afterwards too.
Using the containing box is kinda cute, but not something I’ll use myself – but a very sneaky way to do the necessary work. I see this as a very nice intro effect – and to hand out your business card!
Sure, you can make up your own set and save yourself £30 but I’d prefer to support a fellow creator….
