Gaz Lawrence presents
Fabian Aparicio’s (AKA Ian) amazing creation Final Lock.
Gaz Lawrence has Fabian’s authorised exclusive representation to sell both ‘Final Lock’ and ‘Only One Key’ in the UK and Europe.
So what is Final Lock?
Final Lock was inspired by the late great Mick Hanzlik’s fantastic SupaLok.
SupaLok is no longer available and almost impossible to obtain, even on the second hand market, so Fabian, a former escapologist, trained as a locksmith for many years, to not only make this available again, but to push the envelope one impossible step further with ‘Final Lock’.
In addition, Fabian has also produced ‘Only One Key’ for those who just want a lock that fully replicates SupaLok.
With Final Lock you can perform the SupaLok routine and stop there if you wish. However, Final Lock allows you to go one step further, by allowing any overly zealous spectator the opportunity to try the keys again afterwards.
Both locks are superb in their engineering and I’m certain Mick Hanzlik would have appreciated Fabian’s superb locksmith abilities.
Both locks are made in a high quality Abus 55/40 padlock and come with a warranty.
For completion and history the origins of this effect come from seven keys to Baldpate which was is a mentalism routine developed by Theodore Annemann in 1931.
That lock was originally created back then by Joseph J. Kolar, there are many methods and routines that have been developed over the years, including marketed versions that include gimmicked and un-gimmicked padlocks.
Mick developed it further, and fortunately Fabian has not only kept the legacy going but also raised it an extra level.
Eric Samuels review
Master Locksmith Mick Hanzlik changed the gimmicked padlock game with his release of SupaLok. Alas, with Mick’s tragic passing a few years ago, SupaLok became nearly impossible to find!
In Setting The Stage: Content & Character For The Stage Mentalist, two routines make use of Mick’s clever lock. Suffice it to say, by the time the book was released, his locks were no longer available. But in my effort to find an alternative, I discovered the work of several superb locksmiths, the latest of whom is Argentinian Fabian Aparicio. Until very recently, I offered InterLock from Fabian (Ian) – as solid a mechanical device as SupaLok.
Now Fabian has taken the workings of the lock one step further! FINAL LOCK does everything its predecessor did, with one more added feature! But before we go there, a quick explanation of what the lock can do. Here’s a basic presentational premise:
You present a locked solid brass (widely recognized ABUS brand) padlock to your audience. From this point on, YOU NEVER TOUCH THE LOCK! A half-dozen identical looking keys are introduced, and one or more participants are invited to test each key to determine which one will open the lock. The keys can be retested as many times as you like.
You explain that the reason that none of the keys opens the lock is that the only key that will work has been around your neck (or any other place you like) the entire time. You reveal the key, which also looks identical, and have a participant test it. The lock opens.
You instruct someone to relock the padlock. Everyone is then asked to drop their key, including the one working key, into a glass bowl/cup. You note that all the keys look identical, but only one will open the lock. The keys are then mixed (by one or several people).
There are several ways to proceed from this point – here’s a basic example:
Each participant is asked to remove a key and hold it in their closed hand. Employing whatever theatrical premise suits your character, you determine who holds the functioning key. That person tests their key and the lock (which you have not touched since the very beginning) opens!
